A day in the life of a Construction Project Manager Patrick Wentland



Patrick Wentland is also a skating coach and a previous speed skating champion. He currently work as a project manager in Colorado Springs and he shared the following about his job.

What's your typical work day look like?
My typical work day is spent problem solving, trying to keep projects on schedule and under budget. Most of my work is done through emails and phone calls. Large parts of my role consist of writing contracts to subcontractors to perform work. Managing that work, equipment, materials and labor force. Making sure the work gets done at the price that was budgeted. Working with the project Owners to keep them informed of progress, changes, budget, all the way through the project.

What's the best thing about your job?
It is typically nonstop issues developing that need to be addressed and problems solved and is never dull or boring.

What's the worst thing about your job?
The nonstop issues that arise all day every day don't allow for much vacation time or if you get a vacation you are typically taking care of issues while on vacation.
