What's your typical work day look like?wake up early to get to the ice rink for a 2 hour ice training session after an hour or warm up exercises, stretching and plyometrics. After practice, a full meal is important to be able to recover and get ready for an afternoon workout. The middle of the day will consist of going to work at a part time job to be able to pay the bills since being a Speed Skater doesn't pay much, or going to school to try and complete a degree. Then off to an afternoon workout which will consist of any of the following; 2-4 hours of weight training, 50 mile bike ride, running intervals, technical exercises. This will follow by getting in the proper nutrition to be able to train again tomorrow. Evenings will typically be meeting with a Sports Nutritionist or Psychologist to help improve the physical and mental game. Then off to bed to try and get 8+ hours of sleep so the body can recover and be able to train even harder the next day.
What's the best thing about your job?Winning! and reaching new goals and achievements. Pushing yourself harder than you ever thought you would be able to. Another great part is traveling all over the world competing and making friends from other countries.
What's the worst thing about your job?Feeling tired or exhausted most of the time while training. But it’s all worth it in the end!
