What's your typical work day look like?
Usually wake up around 4:45 and go to the gym for 45 or so minutes. Get home, take the dog out for a quick walk, then get ready for work. Get to work around 7 and prep my lesson for the day. Then I teach for 5 or 6 hours, do some other duties, and prep for whatever practice I have for that season. After practice I get home between 5:30 and 7 (again depending on the season), eat dinner, take the dog out again and either grade homework, watch film or have some free time. Go to bed around 10. Repeat (although I get to sleep til 6 on Friday's because it's an off day for the gym...
What's the best thing about your job?
Working with kids. Seeing them achieve things that they otherwise wouldn't have thought they were capable of. In both the classroom or the field. Seeing that light go on or hearing a kid say "I never liked science until your class"; or in sports, watching a kid stand on top of the podium or even get on the podium, or a team doing something no one thought they could. All those things fill me up big time.
What's the worst thing about your job?
Unfortunately, there are to many instances where kids are behaving very, very poorly. It is very frustrating when these kids turn on people that are trying to help them. On occasion these situations are not handled well either by the people involved. Then it becomes doubly frustrating.
