A day in the life of a Tile Contractor Brent Snead

Here is another interesting job. Tile contractor Brent Snead from Colorado Springs, Colorado shared the following about his job.

What's your typical work day look like?
My typical day begins around 4am. An early start helps me gather my thoughts and plan out my day without all the distractions. I send out emails and make a list of people to call. Then I make a to do list to help me stay organized and cross task off once completed. Around 6am, I can start making phone calls and lining my employees up for the work day. After breakfast and a quick cup of coffee I'm out the door. My work day usually includes picking up materials, walking all the projects we have going on, installing tile etc. and meeting with different people such as superintendents, project managers, or customers.

What's the best thing about your job?
There are many benefits to having your own business! I set my own work schedule. I can take whatever days off I may need. I can choose where I work, the projects we do can last anywhere from a couple days to a couple months, so we are always on the move. That allows us to see many new places and meet lots of new people.

What's the worst thing about your job?
While the pros outweigh the cons there are a few. I have to manage employees, when they call in sick, I have to make sure I've still got enough manpower to get the job done and that sometimes means me. I must work whatever hours are needed to get the project done on time. I have to be really good with money. I have to make sure I've got the funds to make payroll and buy equipment and materials before I get to buy the fun things for myself. Taxes are also a lot of work. I have many things I have to account for to make sure I correctly pay what's required but also make sure I'm not paying too much.
