6:00 a.m. Most of the team starts work. I make phone calls to the job foreman to check status of their project and inquire about any immediate concerns. I go thru the list from more complex projects to simpler ones. I then call the foremen that I will be visiting that day. I ask if there is something I need to pick up for the project and make notes. 7:15 a.m. I drop off my kids at school and usually stop at one or more supply houses. I gather materials and head out to the jobs I have chosen to visit. 8:00 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. I visit the jobs and drop off any parts I picked up. I speak with the foremen and other employees and ask how progress is going at the job, and if there are any issues that needs my attention. I address those needs and speak to the site superintendent(s). About 3:00 p.m. I pick up the kids from school and go to my home office. I check emails and make replies. Typically, I can work on bids for new projects we would like to do or address any other items that I need to. The day ends around 6 or 7 pm on most days. Sometimes later, if I have a larger work load.

What's the best thing about your job?
My job allows me to manage my hectic family life with 4 kids as well as be a successful contractor. I take great pride in the projects our company builds. And there is always the boasting rights in doing one of the top 10 deadliest jobs!

What's the worst thing about your job?
Sometimes the stress levels can get pretty intense. Not only are General Contractors and Owners expecting goals achieved and surpassed but there are 19 employees that rely on this company to pay their paychecks. If a project doesn't make enough profit or we do not win bids, the team feels it in the pocketbook.
