A day in the life of a Soul Contract Guide – Sonia Moore

Soul contract guide Sonia Moore of New Zealand and founder of Soul Conversations was kind enough to share the following about her interesting job.

What's your typical work day look like?
Starts at the computer, checking and replying to emails.  I check my schedule to see what appointments I have on and if there is anything, I need to prepare for those then I schedule that into my day.

I prepare my ‘to do’ list (usually the items that are the highest priority or the must do today items).  I clear all my messages on my phone – sometimes this can take a while so I may need to do this throughout the day as well.

Then I teach students online via video conference, so I am on a lot of video calls.  I’m scheduling appointments, and following up with potential students to discuss courses.

I’m also on What’s App a lot conversing via voice messages with my students.  There can be between 4-9 classes I teach every week so this is something I have to stay on top of.

I do a lot of video calls with students, talking to them about Archetypes and I have calls once per month with my business mentor, spiritual mentor and my Archetype Consultants Group.

Amongst this, I am always studying material, listening to audios, reading articles, searching out information.  I actively engage in my own professional development by participating in courses etc.

Additionally, I develop teaching material, that could be in the form of a new workshop, rewriting material I already deliver or producing new material for teaching.  And…last but not least I do all of my own admin, financial management, and marketing.

Best thing about the job
I’m doing what I love so this doesn’t feel like ‘work’ in the traditional sense of the word.  It’s easy to get up in the morning and get things done because it is my business and I get to choose how I spend my day and what I do with my time.

If I need a break, I’m able to take one, if I want to go for a swim, I work in the evening, if I have an errand to run, I run it.  No-one is standing over my shoulder telling me what I can and can’t do.

Getting up and knowing you are working on your own business every day is completing rewarding as it choosing how you spend your days.  The freedom to move with my work e.g. I moved countries recently and was able to keep working as long as I have internet and my work materials I am good to go.

Worst thing about the job
Don’t underestimate how many hours you work when you are self-employed.  I work way more than a 40-hour week but because I love what I do and I can utilise my time differently than a 9-5 it works.

Because my work entails helping people move through what’s keeping them stuck or holding them back it can take a toll on me especially when, as a guide, you have to point out a pattern of sabotage that their Ego wants to hold on to. This can be quite challenging to navigate.  The work I do involves a massive amount of ‘inner resources’ from me in the form of my undivided attention, my ability to pull multiple bits of data together and help students make sense of it, I keep my eye on a number of aspects at any one time so this can take a lot of physical energy to maintain and sometimes I get tired and just need to rest.

Career Duration
3-years running my own business

Stress Level
This depends on how stress is acknowledged and managed.  I get triggered by my own ‘stuff’ so I have to tend to that and seek the support I need to work through it.  Also, there is a lot to juggle so being organised makes all the difference.  Its about mitigating stress as much as possible and knowing how to identify when it’s occurring, what’s causing it and options for reducing and dealing with it.

Hours Sitting
I can sit at my computer all day every day because there is always more work to be done, but I usually get up after 3 hours and move around.  But some days I can sit for up to 8 hours.

Hours Moving
When I know I need a break or I have been in the house for too long (I work from home) I go out and run errands.  It switches up the space and gets me out of the house, in different environments, and around other people.

Hours Standing
Not many I don’t really need to stand for anything particularly.

Weekend Hours
I try to ensure I take time off over the weekend, so I can have a break.  Half of the day on Fridays is my time off and I teach Saturday mornings so I try to take the rest of Saturday off and Sunday.  I do tend to check messages and emails during this time though so I can keep on top of things otherwise it takes a huge amount of time on Monday mornings to catch up.

Best Personality Type for the job
You have to love being around people, patient, compassionate, understanding, but also have a strong sense of self-esteem and self-confidence because you are dealing with people and their issues as well as the skills and talents needed to run a business.  This would not be a role for an introverted person.

Daily Hours
5-9 hours per day

Shift
No shift work but sometimes I’ll be working late into the evening if I feel like it or there are things that just have to be done.

License
Normal full license but this is not a necessity for my job.

Minimum Education
I did School Certificate – not sure what that is called in the USA.  What has mattered most is that I am following my passion and I am naturally good at what I do even though I have had to learn and develop along the way.
