A Day in the life of a Special Needs Teacher Mrs. Abigail Vik

What's your typical work day look like?
I arrive at school at 7am, and write the schedule on the board. I write the times for each class as well as what we are doing in each class. I also take this time to meet with general education teachers or elective teachers that my students have to check in on them. At 7:35, I get the students off the bus and they go to their locker.
I have 1st hour off, where I write IEP's, collect data, plan lessons or have meetings. Throughout the day, I co-teach unified theater, teach strategic writing, 2 sections of life skills, and 2 sections of consumer math. During my 30-minute lunch break, I take some time to eat, and usually spend about 10-15 minutes in the cafeteria with the students. Each day is actually pretty different.

Best thing about the job
Working with students and seeing them grow! It's so amazing to see student growth both academically and socially.

Worst thing about the job
I can't really think about the worst part of my job. It's pretty stressful writing IEP's and lesson plans and making sure they students are learning everything they are supposed to be learning.
